Workshops

Bright Sparks Science School Workshops are a great way of inspiring classes whilst taking the strain of designing intricate lesson plans away from teachers. Our practical and exciting workshops are often used for science weeks or as a class reward, as they are so much fun for everyone involved! Workshops are a great way of bringing science to you and avoiding the travel costs that go with field trips or visitor centres.
Workshops are specifically tailored to individual age groups and can be used to reinforce science topics taught in the curriculum, without the unnecessary expense of buying new materials and resources.

Workshop themes:

light and color

(KS1+2) (1hr)
What is light and where does it come from?  Students explore the rainbow of light using diffraction glasses, take a closer look at lasers and discover the primary colours. Each child will make their own coloured spinning disc and uncover the true colour of black through chromatography.

(KS1+2) (1hr)
Students will find out what makes the world go round in an entertaining introduction to the basic concepts of forces. They will discover the affects these forces have and will witness a rocket launch on the school grounds!

light and color

(KS1+2) (1hr)
Children discover the explosive effects of air pressure and investigate how they react under pressure! Watch as we defy gravity, making things levitate, explore how helicopters fly and apply the science of air pressure to launch our hot air balloon!

light and color

(KS1+2) (1hr)
Students gain an understanding of static electricity through hands-on activities and some students will even be used to complete an electrical circuit themselves! Watch your class mate's hair stand on end with our special Van der Graff Generator!

light and color

(KS1+2) (1hr)
Discover the dynamics of rocket flight and find out how air resistance plays an important part. Children count down to blast off, launching a model rocket that soars into the air and then safely returns to earth by parachute.

light and color

(KS1+2) (1hr)
This visual workshop allows children to witness a solid transform into a gas! We will cover the states of matter and understand how dry ice is used in special effects, when we create our own spooky scene and bubbling potions.

light and color

(KS1 +2) (1hr)
A great introduction to chemistry and polymers. Children actively investigate chemical reactions that create long chains of polymers from molecules. Each child also makes their very own putty or slime to take home.

light and color

(KS1 +2) (2hrs)
Be a detective for the day and find out who did it. Use your observational skills and scientific techniques to eliminate suspects, whilst uncovering your own personal profile. Can you solve the crime?

light and color

((KS1 +2) (1hr)
Can your tongue detect if something is sweet or sour? Do you eyes play tricks on you? Can you change sounds to make music? How sensitive is your finger? Discover how our sense of sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch enhance our everyday lives.

light and color

(KS1 +2) (1hr)
Follow food down into your tummy as we enter the guts and digest the inner workings of our bodies from the dinner plate to the toilet bowl. Find out how our bodies get nutrients from food, the waste they leave behind and why a balanced diet is essential to staying healthy.
